TRUE LOVE 2 [Prelude]

With every step I took, I dripped water across the clean floor of Miss Langley’s home. Cameron was wiping our traces behind us as we headed to his bedroom. Cameron locked his door as we began to undress out of our wet clothes from the storm. We stood in the middle of the semi-dark room as lightning flashed outside.

“About time you admitted you loved me.” Cameron smiled

I looked up and smiled back at him, “When I saw you leaving me on the cliff, I felt as if…all the happiness had left me until this little flower reminded me why I needed to be true to myself.” I said twirling the rain soaked cherry blossom between our faces.

“So what’s next for us?” he asked
“Well, I’m definitely not going to keep up this secrecy between you and me…” I began as Cameron chuckled, “I’m going to tell my parents the truth about us. Which will then leave me homeless, thanks to my homophobic dad.”
“Well…you can come live with me.” Cameron suggested
“What?” I asked in shock
“Sure. I mean. My mom totally loves you.” He said
“No. I don’t want to be a burden.” I said

He shook his head as we finished changing into dry clothes. He grabbed my hand and dragged me out of his room. We walked across the hall of the landing towards another set of bedrooms. On the left was Natalie’s room, which I only knew because her name was on the door. And at the end of the hall were double doors. They were shut as we approached them. Cameron gently knocked.

“What are you doing?” I asked in horror
“Shh.” He said, “Mom!” he called out
“Come in.” she said

He opened the door and led me into this grand master suite that had its own small living space. She was sitting at her small couch with a cup of coffee reading a book next to the balcony.

“Hi Joey.” She said getting up and walking towards me as she wrapped her warm arms around me with an embrace, “Congratulations, sweetie. I’m so proud of you both.”

She also kissed Cameron on his forehead.

“Cameron, you’re so cold.” She said feeling his face
“Oh, we just got in.” he said
“Keep warm, you two, I don’t want you guys to catch a cold.” She said
“Mom. Can I ask you something…it’s really important?” He said holding onto my hand
“Sure.” She said taking a sip of her coffee

“Cameron.” I said quietly
“Can Joey come and live with us?” he said bluntly

She stood still for a moment. Stared at Cameron, then slowly at me and smiled.
“Of course he can. You’re like family.” She said hugging me again
“Thanks miss Langley. But it will only be temporary until I can find my own place.” I said
“Our own place.” Cameron corrected me
“Well, sweetie, if you are looking for a job, I think I may be able to help you.” She said
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’ll let you know as soon as I gather more information. But please, make yourself comfortable and stay as long as you need to.” She said

I was so relieved. Finally, I could be honest and fear free. I told my parents, which my mother supported. My father of course was bitter and didn’t want to talk to me. He didn’t even help me move. The day I moved out, he left the house so Phillip and Cameron could come over and help me. I put most of my stuff in storage. Cameron stored some of stuff in his closet to make room for me. He said we could share his clothes, since we fit each other’s clothes anyways. My mother was in tears after I had moved everything out. She was happy for me though. I told her this didn’t mean I was disappearing from her life, but that it was time to start a new chapter. Fortunately my mother and Miss Langley got along and from time to time would have lunch together.

As the months flew by, I had found myself working for a bank as a teller near the center of town. To my relief another Depoe Bay High School graduate worked alongside me. Her name was Larissa Sanchez and she was as spunky as Natalie. Cameron also found a new job working with his at the same hospital as his mother. He was the new executive administrative assistant to the chief of operations. I was so happy for him. He seemed enthused to be in a new role, luckily he got great benefits. After eight months of saving, we put a deposit on an apartment that overlooked the beach at Pirate Cove. Things were moving sort of fast, sure, but with love…there is no time like the present.
