TRUE LOVE 2 [Chapter 7: Breaking Point]

As I sat in our lonely apartment, I began to assess the past few months of my relationship with Cameron. There was no doubt that I loved Cameron, but things were not as they were when we first met. We always had disagreements and eventually made up with sex. As much as I enjoy having sex with Cameron, it wasn’t fixing the issue at hand. Were we drifting apart? Was our love story coming to an end? We promised each other on the hill that we would be together…forever. The fact that I was even contemplating this had to be a sign that we needed to have a serious talk.

Just as I was thinking about it, Cameron walked in the front door without a word. He threw his keys on the counter, hung up his leather jacket in the coat closet and sat on the stool at the breakfast bar. He hunched over the counter top with both elbows on it, resting his head on the palm of his hands. I walked over slowly to him and gently ran my hand up his back to the back of his neck.

“Cam.” I said in a low tone
“Yeah?” he said softly
“I’m sorry.” I genuinely said
“Me too.” He looked up at me

The problem with me is that I couldn’t stay mad at him. He was my everything. I wanted to be his everything as well. He spun on his stool now facing me, opened his legs to pull me in closer. His tight embrace against his firm body made me melt.

“I hate fighting.” He confessed
“So do I.” I agreed

We held each other for a few minutes without any further words. Eventually we headed up to our bedroom and went to sleep. It was the first time we didn’t have sex after an argument.

The sound of the waves crashing and seals barking woke me from my deep sleep. Through my closed eyes I could see the brightness of the sun shining through our bedroom windows. I stretched out my left arm, thinking I would feel Cameron there, but he wasn’t. I opened my eyes and cocked my head towards his side of the bed. On his pillow was a red rose with a note. I sat up and picked up the note; it read – My sweetest Joey…meet me at the beach at noon. Forever yours, Cameron. Butterflies erupted within me. It was moments like this that made me happy to be with him.  Perhaps I was jumping ahead last night and overthinking things. We were just fine, these are issues that every couple has. Wait a minute. Noon? What time was it? As I rubbed my eyes to get a clear view of the clock, I noticed it was 10:30am. I had to get ready. Cloud stretched at the foot of our bed as he covered his eyes with his tiny paws from the beaming sunlight coming into our room. I kissed his fluffy head, grabbed some clothes and headed for the shower.

As noon drew near, I grabbed my beach tote with extra clothes, a towel, sunblock and of course my rose. I left my apartment and walked the twenty to thirty minute walk to the beach. Although, our apartment was beach front, I knew where Cameron had meant. He wanted us to meet near Cherry Blossom Cliff. As I turned the street corner towards the direction of the cliff, I felt a breeze blow past me. A beautiful blue butterfly rode the current, missing my face by inches. I had never seen such a bright blue butterfly before. The butterfly flew up the side of the cliff towards the cherry blossom tree where I lost sight of it. The memory of Cameron and I at the top of the cliff making our wish came rushing back to me. It was a moment when I knew that I had feelings for Cameron.

I continued my trek to the beach seeing in the distance Cameron along with our friends on a beach blanket. I was able to get close enough to greet them from a distance before I joined them on the blanket. I placed my things down next to Cameron, took off my shirt and sat down next to him. Phillip, Natalie and Larissa continued to talk while I leaned in to kiss my boyfriend.

“Hi.” He smiled
“Hi.” I smiled back only inches from his face
“I see you got my message.” He laughed
“Duh.” I said pulling the rose out of the bag.
“I love you.” He whispered in my ear
“You better.” I joked kissing him again

“Go get a room, you bag of dicks.” Larissa snapped at us as she sipped from her wine glass
“Did you bring that wine glass from your place?” I laughed
“Of course she did.” Natalie said embarrassed
“Hey…if I’m going to get drunk at the beach, I’m doing it with class.” She laughed
“At least it’s a warm day. I’ve wanted to get in the water.” Phillip said
“Me too, but I can’t now.” Cameron said
“Oh that’s right! You’re new tattoo will burn in the salt water.” Natalie said

I tried to ignore the tattoo, even though it was hard to miss with his shirt off. I didn’t want this to become an issue while we were with friends. I quickly changed the subject.

“Did you guys see that new building near the park? I wonder what it is?” I said uncaring
“Oh, that’s going to be an enclosed garden filled with exotic butterflies.” Natalie said with excitement
“Really?” I asked curiously
“Yeah. It opens in a couple of weeks.”
“I wonder if the butterfly I saw just now was from there then.”
“Really? Did it look exotic?” Natalie’s eyes lit up
“Actually, it did. It was bright blue.”
“Phillip, we need to go!” Natalie said

Of course we all knew, Natalie loved butterflies and would give anything to be a butterfly if she could.

“Hey, did you guys hear that Nick is back in town?” Larissa said staring directly at me
“Fan-fucking-tastic.” Cameron smirked
“I just hope he doesn’t rally up all his douchey friends again and start shit.” Phillip said firmly
“Ditto.” I interjected

“I wonder what made him come back to Depoe Bay.” Natalie thought out loud
“Maybe he got expelled from Seattle too.” Larissa joked as we laughed

“It’s getting hot.” Cameron said
“Want me to rub some sunscreen on you?” I asked
“Yeah babe, please.” He said turning his back towards me

His hideous tattoo was looking right at me and I knew I had made face of distaste.

“Why didn’t you get a matching tattoo, Joey?” Phillip asked

My eyes darted directly at Phillip, giving him the death stare. I caught Natalie shaking her head as if to sign to him, “Nope. Just don’t.”

“Because he thought it was ugly and immature.” Cameron answered

Holy fuck, here we go.

“That’s not what I…” I began
“Yes, you did say that.” Cameron interrupted me
“Cameron, I just wish we had talked about it before you decided to go and do this. We could have come up with something together, that we both loved.” I clarified
“This is a symbol of my love for you.”
“Babe. There are other ways we can symbolize our love for each other.” I said
“Do you not have faith in us anymore?” he snapped
“What?” I asked confused and embarrassed at the fact that we were arguing in front of our friends
“I get it…you don’t feel confident in us…” he said
“Why would I not feel confident, Cameron?” I snapped back at him
“I don’t know…maybe it’s because you’re money hungry and hate that I don’t make enough money!” he snapped at me

A lump grew in my throat. Is that what Cameron really thought of me? Some snob that is only looking to be with someone who spends money on me? My eyes filled with water. I held back the tears as I got up, grabbed my bag and threw the rose in the sand. I stormed off towards the street.

“Cameron!” I heard Natalie snap

As I walked down the street passing the cliff, a stream of tears ran down my face. I had never been so insulted. I don’t remember how long it took me to get home, but it only felt like five minutes. I was so angry that time had no meaning. I burst through the front door of my apartment dropping the tote bag near the coat closet. I sat down on the couch trying to focus on how to handle the situation. I knew this wasn’t over. I heard the small jingle of a bell. I looked over my shoulder to see Cloud trotting down the stairs towards me. He gave out a small squeak of a cry and jumped into my lap. His loud purr gave me a moment of peace as I smiled at him. Moments passed and the front door opened. My smile and peace shattered.

“Joey.” Cameron said walking towards me.

I placed Cloud on the ground and stood up facing him.

“Cameron. I don’t want to do this. Just drop it.” I said calmly
“I can’t drop it. Do you truly love me?” he asked

I could feel the anger growing in me. I clenched my teeth and turned away walking towards the sliding doors of our balcony.

“Well?” He asked again
“No.” I said
“What?!” he asked shocked
“No, because as you said at the beach in front of our fucking friends…I only love money!” I yelled
“I was angry.” He admitted
“Well I’m fucking pissed now. How dare you say that about me!”
“Let’s try to resolve this…”
“No! I’m done.” I snapped
“What?”
“I can’t…” I said
“What do you mean?” he asked in a low voice
“Cameron…I just…” I looked into his eyes which were wide and full of fear, “I can’t do this anymore.”

“No…please don’t.” he pleaded
“We fight about nonsense. Almost every day.”
“That’s normal.” He said
“No it isn’t. We argue about money, about tattoos, we try to make it up with sex…”
“I’ll be better…I promise.” He begged taking a step towards me

I put out my hand, suggesting he stop as I took a step back.

“We’ve lost our connection. Maybe we need time apart.” I said honestly
“No…Joey…don’t.” he began to cry
“I’m sorry, Cameron.” I said

I kissed Cloud as a tear ran down my face. I grabbed my keys, my phone and the tote bag near the door. I turned around to see Cameron still facing the direction of the balcony, sobbing.

“Maybe this is for the best.” I said fighting back tears once again

With that, I opened the door and walked out.

TRUE LOVE 2 [Chapter 5: In The Middle of the Night]

Sometime around 1:30 am, I felt Cameron’s body brushing up against my back. I could feel his erection against my ass, begging to enter. He began kissing my neck and my shoulders. I played it off as if I was trying to sleep. I wasn’t really in the mood especially after the way things ended at dinner. His hands reached around my waist and began stroking my unaroused penis. Eventually I got hard and turned around kissing him. He went under the sheets and wrapped his soft lips around my erection. He was so good at this. There was a sensation of suction going on between where my thighs met my crotch which made me squeal in pleasure. He began sucking on each of my testicles as I pushed him off for fear of being too loud. He came up and kissed my lips, pushing the head of his penis between the cheeks of my ass.

“Turn around.” He said gently

I didn’t respond.

“Babe…” he asked
“Maybe tomorrow. I’m not really in the mood. I kind of just want to sleep.” I confessed
“Are you serious?” he asked in shock

It’s the first time I’ve ever turned down sex from my boyfriend. But, the mood just wasn’t right. I can’t just enjoy sex knowing things aren’t as they should. Sure I was hard and I probably could come, but I don’t think I would fully enjoy it.

“It’s just…tonight really bothered me…and we didn’t really resolve anything.” I admitted
“Oh. Well let’s talk.” He suggested
“Now?”
“Why not…”
“Well, it’s going to be 2am.” I pointed at the clock
“So? Let’s resolve this so we can have enjoyable sex.” Cameron laughed
“Are you kidding me?” I stood up out of bed
“Come on. Don’t be like that. Let’s just talk this out.” He said standing up

We were both still erect as our penises touched as he came towards me.

“I’m going for a walk.” I said putting on some shorts and a t-shirt
“At this time?” Cameron asked concerned
“Yeah. I need to get some air.” I said walking out of the room and downstairs
“Babe, please. Don’t leave.” Cameron said walking after me naked
“I’ll be back later.” I said walking out of the front door

He got me so upset at the fact that he thinks trying to work things out at 2am will get me to reconsider having sex. How selfish could he be? Maybe I was blowing things out of proportion as well, but I just don’t respond to things the way Cameron does. I began jogging north which was the opposite side of the center of town. The route was scenic as there was a viewpoint cliff and a beach called Boiler Bay. After a twenty minute jog, I finally reached the bay and walked down towards the beach. The weather was warm and perfect for a dip. Fortunately the beach was secluded and empty so I took off all of my clothes and dove into the cool water. I swam out about thirty feet under the bright moon. Luckily the waves weren’t as large in this small bay and I was able to bob around. I heard a splash behind me and I turned around fearing it was a large animal or worse…a shark. I wasn’t sure if I should stay still or swim back to shore as fast as possible. I began to slowly swim back, not moving my legs and arms as much. Suddenly a figure emerged from the water in front of me. I screamed.

“Holy shit!” I shouted
“Oh my God!” said the person in front of me

It was Nick.

“Nick! What the fuck! What are…how? Did…what are you doing here?” I tried to find the first question to ask
“Swimming. What the fuck are you doing here?” he asked me
“Um…obviously the same as you.”
“Oh.” He said flatly
“What are you doing back in Depoe Bay?” I asked him as he bobbed a few feet away from me
“Decided to move back with my brother. Just until I find something different to do.” He confessed
“When did you get back?” I asked
“The day after you guys saw me at the club. Which by the way…please don’t tell anyone.” He pleaded
“Oh..um. No, I wouldn’t. That’s none of my business.” I said
“Thanks.” He smiled
“You’re freaking me out.” I laughed
“Why?” he laughed back
“Because…you never smile.” I said
“Well, things have changed. And…I’m sorry about the way I acted. I just didn’t know how to deal with that situation in Seattle.”
“Oh…well. It’s okay. All forgotten.” I said
“Want to swim back to the beach and talk?” he offered
“Oh…I…” I stumbled
“Naked?” he asked laughing
“Kind of. Didn’t realize I would run into anyone here.” I admitted
“No worries…I usually come out here to swim naked too. It’s a nice time for a swim.” He said turning around and swimming back to shore

I followed him as we got to the shallow part of the beach. As he stood up out of the water, I could see that he was definitely naked. The smooth clear water dripped off his shaven six foot body. Wow. He really did work out and had one hell of an ass on him. I stood up out of the ocean not too far behind him and quickly realized I had an erection. Holy shit. I covered it with both hands. Nick had reached his pile of clothes. He kneeled down with his back still towards me and began slipping on his clothes. I quickly ran to my pile of clothes and stumbled to get my shorts on. After we got dressed we walked up to each other and sat down on the sand next to one another.

“So. How have you been?” he asked
“Good.” I lied
“You and Cameron seem happy.” He said keeping his eyes on me
“We are.” I lied again
“That’s good.” He smiled
“What about you? Any new girls in your life?” I asked
“No…no new girls.” He laughed
“Why not?”
“Well…I have to confess something.” He dropped his smile looking at me
“What is it?” I asked

He then without hesitation leaned in and kissed me. I quickly pulled back surprised.

“What are you doing?” I asked in shock
“I’m sorry.” He said looking down
“Nick...you’re gay?” I asked
He nodded his head in silence.
“You could have just told me.” I chuckled nervously
“Well…the reason I did that was because I wanted to.” He looked back up at me
“Huh?”
“I hated you in high school, but not because you were gay. Because…” he hesitated
“Just tell me.” I pushed for more information
“Because you weren’t with me.” He said standing up and walking closer to the shoreline

I was totally flabbergasted. I stood up brushing the sand off my ass. I walked towards him.

“Nick. That doesn’t make sense.” I said
“I protected Cameron because he was like my brother. But when you guys got together, it broke me. That’s why I fought him and not you. I felt like…he took the happiness that I would have liked to have with you. I was just afraid. Afraid to be like him; brave, honest and free.”

My God. He truly was gay. I placed my hand on his back comforting him as he seemed emotional.

“I’m fine.” He said as if reading my mind
“You can cry if you need to.” I said
“No. You can’t see me like this.” He said turning his head away from me
“Nick…be yourself. Seeing this side of you shows me you can be a good person. That whole macho, asshole persona is not you. It isn’t you.” I smiled
“Yeah, but it’s too late. You have your happily ever after. I have no one.” He said as a tear rolled down his face
“Nick. Does anyone else know?” I asked
“Just my brother and now you. And I guess Natalie, Phillip, Larissa and Cameron.”
“Well, I can keep your secret if you aren’t ready to share it. But believe me. If you carry yourself with self-respect and an open heart. I can promise you that you will be much happier.” I said wiping the tear from his face
“You think so?” he asked
“Yeah. I really do.” I said

We hugged each other. His embrace was tight. His muscles were firm and his facial hair tickled my forehead since I was a couple inches shorter than him.

“Thank you. I promise I’ll be nicer. And I’m sorry for crossing the line.” He said
“Don’t worry about it. I’m glad you were honest with me. I appreciate that.” I said

However my appreciation turned into guilt because I had lied to him about Cameron and me. But I wasn’t sure if telling him was the right thing to do. I mean, it was Nick after all. Nick gave me his cell phone number and suggested we get together and hang out some time or go for jogs together. I agreed as we headed back in our direction of home. He lived in Lincoln City which was just north of the beach we were at. I began my jog back down south towards town. I finally got home and walked in to find Cameron asleep on the couch. Cloud was curled up sleeping next to chest. I kissed them both and headed upstairs to shower and get back in bed.

TRUE LOVE 2 [Chapter 4: The Woes of Love]

A few weeks had gone by and Cloud was full of energy and had explored every nook and cranny of our apartment. There were moments where I feared he ran out because I couldn’t find him, but he would be hiding in a tight space or simply just sleeping under our bed. Natalie loved Cloud. She even bought him a comfy little pet bed for our room along with a small bundle of cat toys. Unfortunately Larissa was allergic to cats so we would have to lock him up in our bedroom whenever she came over. It broke my heart when I would hear his tiny cry under our door. One evening, as the sun was beginning to set and Cameron and I were waiting for his sister and Phillip to arrive so we could go to dinner. We were heading to an Italian restaurant, actually it was the one where we were verbally assaulted the day of our graduation; however the manager had since retired and many of the residents were much more open minded now. Cameron and I had been back before tonight and our last visit was much more pleasant. I suggested a different place since we were trying to be careful with our spending, but Cameron didn’t want to give a reason to our friends why a different place would be better. It was our private struggle anyways, we didn’t want to burden them with our problems as I’m sure they had their own. Larissa’s phone went off while she sat on our couch sipping wine. Fortunately Phillip’s older brother was kind enough to buy us wine from time to time since we were only twenty. It’s not like we were alcoholics, we just liked the occasional glass with our dinner or for socializing. I enjoyed the taste of wine, while Cameron preferred champagne.

“That was Natalie. She’s around the corner, she said to meet her outside.” Larissa said standing up and tossing the rest of her wine down her gullet
“Okay. Babe did you feed Cloud?” Cameron asked
“Yes. He has a full bowl of food that should last him all night.” I replied

We walked out of our apartment and towards the curb as Natalie and Phillip came around the corner in Phillip’s Ford Explorer.

“What time was our reservation?” Phillip asked Cameron
“It was at 7:30.” He responded
“Shit, we got 10 minutes. Hang on.” He said speeding off
“Phillip!” Larissa snapped
“Well, if we don’t make it, we’ll lose our reservation.”
“Too bad Jasmine didn’t work there still.” Natalie said
“Have you talked to her?” I asked
“Not in a while. Last time I called her, she was still working at that record company.”
“Who is Jasmine again?” Larissa cut in
“She’s our friend from high school. You didn’t know her?” I asked
“Was she a senior?” she asked
“A junior.” Natalie said
“Then no.”

I kind of laughed at the stuck up personality that was Larissa. It’s what I loved about her. She was just blunt and wasn’t afraid to tell it like it is.

“She still hasn’t found a modeling agency that would hire her?” Cameron asked Natalie
“No. She’s trying so hard. I know it’s her goal. I’m just glad she is aiming for her dream. She wasn’t going to find that here in Depoe Bay.”
“Well, I hope she comes and visits soon.” I said

By the time I knew it, we had pulled up to the restaurant. It looked the same. Grapevines around the building, hanging lights near the side patio. Across the street was the beach that over looked the bay and under the moonlight I could see the faint pink blossoms of the cherry tree that stood at the top of the cliff.

“Hurry.” Larissa said pushing me through the door interrupting my special moment of fondness

The hostess looked bland and unhappy to be working.

“Name.” she said flatly
“Harris.” Cameron said
“Right this way.” She said picking up five menus and walking us to the patio area.
“Oh. I haven’t eaten out here before. It’s beautiful.” I said
“Enjoy.” Said the hostess dropping our menus on the corner of the table
“She was pleasant.” Natalie said under her breath
“She was a bitch.” Larissa clarified
“That too.” Natalie laughed
“I think I ate her pussy once.” Larissa said crudely
“Larissa!” I said with a smile
“What?” she laughed
“Come on…table of gay guys and a straight girl!” I said
“Um, hello!” Phillip said holding his hand up next to his head
“Um, you had me hold your hand to the bathroom in Seattle. Don’t start.” I said with a smile

Natalie and Larissa laughed. Cameron was too busy looking at the menu.
“Babe, you okay?” I asked
“Yeah, just looking for a salad.”
“A salad? My hungry baby is going to eat a salad?” I said in a low voice
“Just kind of pricey.” He said flustered
“We can share a plate.” I offered
“No its fine.” He said in a cold tone

I focused my attention back on the others in order to prevent a public argument about money. I joined the laughter between Larissa, Natalie and Phillip, although I didn’t catch what they said. My mind was still on Cameron, wishing he didn’t stress so much. The waiter came and finally took our order. I ordered a half plate of sausage stuffed ravioli with a side salad. Cameron ordered the spaghetti with soup. Cameron drank water, while I ordered a tea. Damn it. I should have gotten water as well.

“This is so delicious.” Natalie said stuffing her face with her angel hair pasta
“We have got to come here more often.” Larissa suggested

Cameron almost choked at the sound of those words. I gently patted his back.

“Are you okay?” I asked
“Yeah.” He said through a gurgle

“How is your food, Joey?” Natalie asked me
“It’s really good. Want to try?” I offered
“Yeah.” Natalie said stabbing her fork into one of the raviolis
“Babe, you want some of my tea?” I offered Cameron
“No, I’ll stick with my water.” He said taking a gulp
“Wow. That’s really good. I’m going to have to order that next time. We should come next weekend.” Natalie said
“Why don’t we try some other places? There’s a burger joint off the pier.” Cameron said
“Yeah, but we always ate there when we were kids. Aren’t you sick of it?” Natalie scrunched her face
“No. I love it.” Cameron said smiling

After a while the waiter came back and took away our empty plates. He offered us dessert.

“I’m in for some sweets.” Natalie said
“Me too.” Said Phillip
“Gelato sounds good.” Larissa said
“I’ll take the chocolate soufflĂ©” Phillip said
“Oh, I’ll take one of those too.” Natalie smiled

“And for you gentlemen?” He asked Cameron and I
“Oh uh…” I began as I looked at Cameron, but his eyes were bulging out at me
“We’re good.” Cameron said dismissing the waiter
“You guys should have gotten something.” Larissa said
“We’re full.” Cameron lied
“Joey looked like he wanted something.” Natalie chuckled

Cameron looked at me. I shook my head.
“Don’t be shy. I’ll order it for you.” Larissa said
“No. Really, I’m okay.” I pleaded
“Okay.” Larissa said holding her hands up in surrender

The waiter came back with the desserts and Larissa whispered something into his ear. After another few minutes, the waiter came back with two gelatos and placed one each in front of Cameron and myself.

“Oh, we didn’t order these.” Cameron said in a high pitched voice
“That was me.” Larissa laughed, “I know you guys wanted dessert, I could see it in your eyes.” She said spooning gelato into her mouth
“Please take mine back.” Cameron said to the waiter
“As you wish. And you sir?” he asked me
“Oh uh…I’ll keep mine.” I said
Cameron turned and looked at me. He looked bewildered. As if I had stolen something from him. I smiled and took a small bite of my gelato.

“Mmm…it’s delicious.” I said staring into his eyes

Maybe that was wrong of me. Egging him on like that. But it just pissed me off how he would limit me just because he was stressed. If he was that stressed out then I would pay for my own dinner.

“What’s wrong Cameron?” Natalie chuckled
“Nothing.” He said flatly taking out his cell phone and rummaging through it

I looked over and saw him begin using his calculator. Uh oh.

The waiter returned and handed each of us our bill. Larissa had her own, Phillip and Natalie shared one, while Cameron was handed ours.

“Fuck.” He said in a low growl
“What?” Natalie asked, “Did they mess up on your bill?”
“No. I just didn’t realize it would come out to this much.” He admitted
“Let me see?” Larissa leaned in
“Eighty seven bucks. That’s hefty.” She snickered
“Well, Cam, we can help pay your bill if you like?” Phillip offered
“No, I got it.” He said with a slight tone of embarrassment
“Give it to me, I’ll pay for…” Natalie began stretching her hand out for the bill
“Goddamn it, Natalie, I said I got it!” he snapped

Natalie retracted her hand, looking down at her plate. She was in shock by her brother’s anger. I was completely embarrassed.

“Thank you Natalie for your offer. But we can handle it. We appreciate it.” I smiled at Natalie

Cameron slipped the money into the booklet standing up and walking into the restaurant. He was leaving. I stood in my place. I didn’t chase him. Maybe he needed to blow off this steam. Larissa was sipping her wine, unsure of how to react. Phillip place his arm around Natalie to comfort her as she hadn’t taken her eyes off of her now melted half eaten gelato. We all stood up and silently walked out of the restaurant. Cameron was nowhere to be seen.

“Guys. You can go ahead without us. I have to go find Cameron.” I told Phillip and Natalie
“Are you sure? We can wait.” Phillip said
“No, we’ll get a cab.” Natalie got into the passenger seat

I walked up to her hugging her gently and kissing her on her forehead.
“He didn’t mean it.” I whispered to her
A tear rolled down her cheek, which broke me to pieces. I wiped the tear away with my finger.

“I’ll call you when we get home.” I said with a smile
She nodded her head in response. The three of them drove off into the night. I knew exactly where Cameron was. I began to walk across the street towards the beach. The parking lot used for beach access was empty and the strong sound of wind rang against my ears along with the thundering waves crashing against the cliff. I walked in the direction of the hillside of Cherry Blossom Cliff as I looked up and under the moonlight I could see the shape of a figure standing next to the tree at the top of the cliff. As I reached the top I could make out Cameron with his hands in each of his pant pockets staring out into the ocean.

“Cameron.” I waited for a response

He stood absolutely still. He was ashamed of how he acted.

“Cameron. Come on, let’s go home.” I said putting my hand on his shoulder
“I shouldn’t have yelled at Natalie like that.” He said
“No you shouldn’t have. She was just trying to help.” I said
“I know. I’m sorry for embarrassing you.” He said
“It’s okay. Come on.” I said grabbing his arm

We walked back down the hillside and reached the parking lot. I called a cab which picked us up about five minutes later. He drove us to our apartment a couple miles away to Pirate Cove. We were silent the entire way home. I paid the driver as we exited the cab and entered our apartment. Cloud welcomed us home with his soft squeaky cries. I picked up and kissed his precious face. I gave him to Cameron as he kissed him and placed him on the floor. As promised, I called Natalie and told her we were home safe. Cameron apologized to Natalie and told her goodnight. We then headed upstairs to our bedroom. I took off my clothes while I read in bed and Cameron sat on the balcony staring out into the ocean. After about an hour, he came inside and we went to sleep.
